Hydro vac, answered.

The questions contractors and project owners ask us most.

What exactly is hydro vac excavation?

It uses high-pressure water to break up soil while a vacuum lifts the slurry into a truck for offsite disposal. Also called hydro excavation, daylighting, potholing or vacuum excavation, it is a safer, non-destructive alternative to digging with a backhoe or by hand.

Why use hydro vac instead of mechanical digging?

Because water cannot sever a buried gas, hydro, telecom or water line the way a metal bucket can. It keeps crews out of the trench, exposes utilities precisely, and dramatically reduces the risk of a strike and the cost of restoration.

Do you handle emergency and essential-service work?

Yes. Call our mobile line at (416) 678-2347 to book a truck for urgent and essential-service excavation.

Where does ANIC work?

We are based in Milton, Ontario and work across the province — including the GTA — on municipal, provincial and federal projects.

Who do you typically work for?

Government and infrastructure clients including the Ministry of Transportation, the GTAA, the Government of Canada, municipalities, general contractors and utility owners.

What is daylighting and potholing?

Daylighting is safely exposing a buried utility so it is visible; potholing is digging a precise test hole to confirm a utility’s depth and location. Both are core hydro vac applications ANIC performs daily.

Is hydro vac better for the environment?

Yes. Our methods are trained to minimize environmental impact, and spoil is hauled to a proper disposal facility rather than left on site.
