What is hydro vac?

Dig with water, not a blade.

Hydro vac excavation uses pressurized water to break up soil while a powerful vacuum lifts the slurry into an onboard tank for proper offsite disposal. Also called hydro excavation, daylighting, potholing or vacuum excavation, it's the non-destructive standard for digging near live infrastructure.

  • No strikes. Water can't cut a gas, hydro, telecom or water line the way a backhoe bucket can.
  • Precise. Expose exactly what you need with a clean, tight excavation — not a wide open trench.
  • Safer & faster. Fewer crews in the hole, less restoration, higher productivity — real cost savings.

What we do

One discipline, done exceptionally.

ANIC doesn't dabble in vac work as a sideline — hydro excavation is all we do. Here's how that specialization shows up on your site.

Hydro Vac Excavation

Our core service. High-pressure water breaks the ground; the slurry is vacuumed into the truck and hauled to a proper disposal facility. A safer, cleaner, non-destructive alternative to mechanical digging near buried infrastructure.

Explore the method

Daylighting

Safely exposing buried utilities so they're visible and verified before any adjacent work begins.

Potholing & Test Holes

Precise vertical test holes that confirm the depth and location of a utility before you commit to a design.

Utility Locating Support

Non-destructive digging alongside your locators to physically confirm crossings, unknowns and conflicts — the trusted second set of eyes before machine excavation.

Slot Trenching

Narrow, clean trenches for conduit, cable and small-diameter pipe with minimal surface disturbance.

Slurry Removal & Disposal

Vacuuming, hauling and responsible offsite disposal of spoil at an approved facility.

Good to know

Hydro vac, answered.

The questions contractors and project owners ask most.

What exactly is hydro vac excavation?

It's a method that uses high-pressure water to break up soil while a vacuum lifts the slurry into a truck for offsite disposal. Also called hydro excavation, daylighting, potholing or vacuum excavation, it's a safer, non-destructive alternative to digging with a backhoe or by hand.

Why use hydro vac instead of mechanical digging?

Because water can't sever a buried gas, hydro, telecom or water line the way a metal bucket can. It keeps crews out of the trench, exposes utilities precisely, and dramatically reduces the risk of a strike and the cost of restoration.
